Beverly G. Nemer, commonly known as Bev, was called for her next assignment in Heaven on Tuesday, April 11, 2023. The Lord must have seen that the angels needed to add a little sass and spunk to their ranks. Beverly was born on October 22, 1943, to Hans and Lauris Brekenfeld in Belle Fourche, South Dakota.

After graduating from Belle Fourche High School in 1961, Bev met the love of her life, Edwin Nemer. They were married as soon as Ed was legally allowed, on his 21 ^st birthday, August 18, 1963.  A few years after having their first son, Stewart Thomas, in 1965, they made their way to Texas. They ultimately settled in Wylie, Texas on Easter weekend in 1969 and had their second son, Rodney William later that year. Although Bev never forgot her South Dakota roots, she was ever proud of being a Texas girl and proudly waved the Texas flag at many family and school reunions.

When the boys became school-age, Bev went to work for the Wylie Chamber of Commerce, where she served the community faithfully for 20 years. Her service was a family affair. Bev led her family and many volunteers in putting on various signature Wylie events – Wylie Jubilee Days, which included the annual rodeo, street dance, carnival, and parade, along with the annual Christmas parade, Chamber banquets, and many other community events. Some of these events still occur today but are not the same without her special touch.

Bev retired from the Chamber in 1997 to embark on her most cherished duty, full-time Grandma. Her sons ensured she would fulfill this calling by blessing her and Grandpa with 8 grandchildren, who in turn continued to bless them with 10 great-grandchildren and one great, great-grandchild. Bev loved each and every one of them fiercely.

Bev and Ed enjoyed socializing and had a long-standing Friday night date at the local Chili's restaurant for many years. They were even gifted their tabletop when the restaurant furnishings were being updated. As the town grew around them, they found their new special spot at Napoli's where Gino and his staff had their table ready every Wednesday and Friday. They made life-long friends with the staff and patrons at both places. Everyone knew Bev and Ed – and they knew them and treated them as family. As one precious friend said, "Mama Bev; she had more kids than she could ever count."

Sassy, spunky, and feisty…these are all endearing terms used to describe Bev. If you knew her, you loved her. She always had a smile and with those sparkling eyes, she lit up the room. Her laugh was infectious, and she had so much laughter and love in her life. She loved all things with bling, and you didn't dare buy her anything pink. If you did, she would give you "the look," but still love you anyway.

Bev is survived by her husband of 60 years, Edwin Micheal Nemer, who was faithfully by her side every possible moment from the day they married. You didn't know Bev without knowing Ed. In fact, we chose the memorial photo of them together because that is how they were known – Bev and Ed. She was preceded in death by her only sibling, Scott Leroy Brekenfeld. Her boys, Stewart Nemer and his wife, Lisa; and Rodney Nemer and his wife Aimee; will forever be blessed by her life with their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren: Jaimen and Amanda Podowski and children Bryson and Penelope; Austin and Susie Podowski and children Presley and Parker, Rachel and Austin Fullen and children Cameran and Hayes; Holley and Jay Meadows and children Kieran Standoak, Collin Nemer, Maddie Meadows, Michael and Katie Meadows, and Charlotte Meadows; Connor Nemer; Darby and Michael Kirton; and Sawyer and Daley Nemer. We know that all her extended family and the hundreds of friends she made throughout her life were impacted by Bev's love and will join us in keeping her spirit in our hearts.
