Billy Edward Lewis, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away on December 11, 2022 at the age of 87 after a brief fight against Multiple Myeloma.  He and his wife of 63 years, Donna Click Lewis, raised their family in Garland for 28 years but have been proud residents of Wylie for the past 30 years.

He will be remembered for his personal drive, love for his family, friends, 4 grandchildren and country. He was a proud Hillcrest Panther and was an all-district 12 AA football player in 1953. He worked his way through University of North Texas selling sandwiches at the dorms just before lights out. He was a terrific dancer, and his favorite was the North Texas Push. His first job was as a football coach  in the Garland Independent School District. He loved the boys and remembered them all of  his life. In the early 60's,  he was the pool manager at Eastern Hills Country Club in Garland where he taught hundreds of children to swim. After a successful year of coaching in White Deer Texas, he entered the financial arena where he remained until his retirement in 2007. He retired as Executive Director of The F.O. Birmingham Memorial Land Trust which mostly benefits Wylie ISD CTE programs. He was very proud of the work he did for the Trust.

In retirement he enjoyed his tractor, many dogs and especially becoming an expert on the history of Wylie. He and his wife,  Donna,  enjoyed taking Rhodesian Ridgeback dogs to shows across the U.S. They also enjoyed traveling on River Cruises all over the world but especially America.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Alton & Lorine Rhines Lewis of Van, Texas, his older brothers Delora and Charles, and his son-in-law, Mark Willis. He is survived by his wife, Donna Click Lewis of Wylie, his son Jon David Lewis and wife, Christy McNeely Lewis of Wylie and his daughter, Anella Lewis Willis of Murphy and four beloved grandchildren, Brigitte & Nathan Lewis and Callie & Cade Willis of Murphy. He is also survived by his two younger brothers, Richard and Greg Lewis, and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by members of his Wylie Rotary Club and many personal friends.

A Celebration of Life  will be held on December 27th at the Wylie Methodist Church at 3:00 p.m.  Immediately following there will be a reception at the Landon Winery in downtown Wylie.
