It was God who "wonderfully" designed and "knit" her together in the womb (Psalm 139:13-14); and when she breathed her last breath, God's Spirit was there, holding her in Love and carrying her to be with Him (Psalm 139: 8-10).

Charlene Gaston Vick, 85, a long-time resident of Kaufman, Texas, passed away peacefully on November 18, 2020 in Carrollton, Texas.

Charlene was the first child born to Virginia and Nolen Brookshire on November 15, 1935 in Elmdale, Kansas.  She was always a hard worker, albeit in the family home or outside of the home where at the age of 13 she took a full-time job in order to help provide for her family – especially her little sister Shirley, who meant the world to her.  At the age of 16, she married Henry Lee Gaston March 29, 1952.  Henry Lee preceded her in death in 1981.

On February 14, 1992, Charlene married James "JC" Vick. JC preceded her in death in 2012.

Charlene was a quiet soft-spoken lady who lived a simple life.  When not encouraging Henry Lee in his horse racing business or JC in his electrical business, she could be found tending her yard or reading a good book.  Of course, Saturdays were strictly reserved for shopping at Town East Mall.  She was a fierce advocate for her children.  She loved being a Mom and devoted her life to loving and caring for her family. Charlene will always be remembered for her legacy of generosity and kindheartedness.

Charlene is survived by her three cherished children: Jimmy Lee Gaston (Rene) of Benton, LA; Patti Jo Gaston Shuler (Brian) of Wylie, Texas; and Lance Wayne Gaston (Andrea) of Benton, LA. Survivors also include her sister and best friend Shirley Hemby of Crandall, TX; four grandchildren; Laura Gandy (Sam) of Weatherford, TX; Jamie Thielke (Jarvis) of Carrollton, TX; Lee Gaston of Houston, TX and Matt Shuler (Jennifer) of Lavon, TX; and six great-grandchildren.

When I must leave you for a just little while,
