In Loving Memory of Darlene Swearingen Scoggins - August 27, 1953 - August 22, 2023

On August 22, 2023, at 11:55am, surrounded by her loving family in Richardson, TX, Darlene Scoggins peacefully transitioned from this life to her heavenly home. She passed away, leaving behind a legacy of selflessness, love, and unwavering faith. She was a remarkable woman who touched the lives of those around her with her boundless compassion and kind-hearted nature.

Darlene loved fiercely; especially her family and beloved grandchildren.  She had a deep love for all people, young and old. Most importantly, she loved her God with all of her heart.  She was a treasure and to know her was to love her.

Darlene was born on August 27, 1953 in Corpus Christi, TX, and her life's journey was one

marked by a deep commitment to love and family. She grew up in Paris, TX, graduating from Paris High School.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend; always putting the needs of others before her own. Her 36 years of marriage to Kenneth Scoggins was a testament to their enduring love and commitment. His passing in 2013 was a profound loss, but their love and adventure continues in the memories they created together. She resided in Wylie, TX since 2005 and was a faithful member of The Refuge Church where she will be greatly missed.

Her children meant the world to her, and her legacy lives on through them. Darlene is survived by her son Rev. Nathan Scoggins and wife Bertha of San Antonio, TX; as well as her daughter, Amy Conkle and husband Brent of Wylie, TX. She held a special place in her heart for her late daughter, Christy Figueroa, who passed away in 2015.

Darlene's devotion extended beyond her immediate family. She cherished her siblings and the connections they shared. While her sister Ruby Hanson and her parents, Rubylea Chambless and Arthur Denton Swearingen, have passed before her, her surviving siblings—Linda Sluis, and husband Ken of Richwood, TX, Asa Chambless, and wife Kristi of Corpus Christi, TX, and Katrina McNeal, and husband Mark of Sumner, TX – will continue to honor her memory.  She deeply loved her brother and sister in-laws; as well as her nieces and nephews.

As a grandmother, affectionately known as "Nana", Darlene's love knew no bounds. She is survived by eight grandchildren: John Scoggins, Mariah McLaughlin and husband Casey, Talon Thornhill, Leah Crossno and husband Ethan, Ashlyn Conkle, Garrison Conkle, Ella Conkle, and Nathaniel Conkle. Her legacy also extends to her great-grandchildren who will grow up hearing stories of her boundless love and generosity.

Darlene Scoggins will forever be remembered for her selflessness, warmth, and ability to make those around her feel cherished. Her life was a testament to her Christian faith, and her impact will continue to be felt through the countless lives she touched. In her memory, let us strive to carry forward her spirit of love and compassion and to live our lives as a reflection of the values she held dear.

A celebration of Darlene's life will be held on August 26, 2023 at The Refuge Church, 1380 Parker Rd, Wylie, TX 75098. Visitation - 10:00 am / Service - 11:00 am

Following, she will be laid to rest beside her late husband at Millwood Cemetery, 11395 Co Rd 535, Lavon, TX 75166.
