In the early hours of June 13th 2025, David Austin Esrey died of sudden complications following a hospitalization due to pneumonia. He leaves behind a legacy of humor and compassion.

He was born on December 17th, 1992 to Troy and Susan (Rodewald) Esrey. As a child, he explored many states, having lived in California and Iowa before settling with his parents in Wylie, Texas.

He loved video games, spicy food, and animals, especially cats. In his final years, Dave was a dedicated caretaker for countless fish and his beloved cat Toby. He was also a faithful companion to his family's cat, Mittens.

David's best friend was his younger brother Adam, who was frequently his player two in games of Mario Party. The two were inseparable as children and remained close as adults. David is preceded in death by his grandparents and Uncle Todd. He is survived by his parents and brother Adam (Maura Kiefer); his Aunt Penny (Ron Nichols); his Uncle Thomas (Judy Greve Rodewald); cousins Katie Rodewald, Anna Rodewald, Gavin Rodewald, Jacob Esrey and Kyle (Jennifer) Esrey. His cousin's children Griffin, Tobia, Tzara, Dillon, Colton, Mikkel, Jacob, Ryan and Samuel are also left to honor his memory.
