Doris Davis of Murphy, Texas, passed away on February 25, 2022, at the age of 86. Doris battled lung cancer, but it never stopped her from being the greatest mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She died in her home surrounded by her husband and children. It would be wrong to say that Doris lost her battle to cancer because she never stopped fighting. Through her, we know what resilience and perseverance truly look like.

Doris Thelma Bain was born on September 16, 1935, in Barbourville, Kentucky.  In 1971, Doris and her husband Joe moved the family to Amarillo, TX. Doris spent the early years raising seven children. As the children started leaving the family home, she began to work alongside Joe in their co-owned family business running the day-to-day operations of their truck stops. After retirement, the couple enjoyed years of traveling, including spending many winters in their vacation home inPanama, South America, taking in the sun, the ocean, and the warm weather.

A devout Catholic who lived life to its fullest, Doris took joy in cheering for her Dallas Cowboys, going to the symphony, enjoying Mexican food and margaritas, and so much more. She had seemingly boundless energy, humor, graciousness, and a huge heart.  She was the personification of genuine, warm, Southern hospitality, and everyone always marveled at how effortless she made it look, while always looking so stylish. Doris's greatest legacy is the love she had for her family.

Doris is survived by Joseph E. Davis Jr, her husband of nearly 58 years, and seven children:  Garret Cockrell of Frisco, TX; Ronald Cockrell of Hutchinson, KS; Teresa Schneider and her husband Michael of Mesquite, TX; Debbie Ford of Murphy, TX; Joseph E. Davis III and his wife Diane of Flint, TX; Pam Comerford and her husband Sean of Allen, TX; and Patricia Thorne and her husband Brian of Amarillo, TX.  Two sisters from Louisville, KY; Joy Cashman and husband Barry; Jody Reichle and husband Vic. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, John Bain and Alice Powell; her bothers, Dean Bain, Nobel Bain, and Jack Bain; sister, Drucilla Runquist; and great-grandson, Cason Cockrell.

Visitation will be Tuesday, March 15, 2022, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Allen Funeral Home. Her celebration of life will be Wednesday, March 16, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Wylie, Texas. Doris will be laid to rest following a ceremony at 2:00 p.m. the same day at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.

Pallbearers are the oldest grandsons of each family:  Garret Cockrell, Johnny and Wayne Carroll, Kameron Ford, Alec Comerford, and Thomas Thorne.
