Dorothy Lillian Hogan, 98, was born on October 13, 1927, to Edward Francis and Nora Mangan Dennehy.   Her death marks the end of a generation for the Dennehy side of the family as Dorothy was the youngest of nine children and the last to survive.  Two of her sisters lived to be 98 and 99.   She had five children, seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.  Dorothy's life began in a community near Forney nicknamed the Irish Ridge for its numerous Irish immigrants.  Her father was a cotton farmer.  Dorothy rode a horse to school and their home had only three bedrooms and an outhouse.  At age 12, the family moved to Oak Cliff where she attended St. Cecilia's and Our Lady of Good Counsel.  She then attended St. Paul Nursing School under the US Cadet Nurse Corps program and graduated in 1947.  She was a nurse at St. Paul and Presbyterian Hospitals.  She married William Harvey Hogan in 1950.  Bill and Dorothy met when Bill's brother, George, and Dorothy's sister, Helen, were married. They moved frequently including stops in Corpus Christi, Houston, Midland, Dallas, Tyler then back to Dallas where they finally settled down in Lake Highlands.   Along the way, five children were born – Dennis, Bill, Maureen, Tim and Molly.    Dorothy and Bill moved to Albuquerque in the 1980's and remained there until Bill died in 1993.  Dorothy moved back to the Metroplex shortly thereafter and bought a home in Sachse.

Dorothy was quite the hostess.   She never tired of gathering with friends and family.  At age 97, she hosted a dinner for her Sachse neighbors.  She adored her five children and 35 nieces and nephews.  At gatherings, she was always the one to initiate games, especially 42.  Dorothy was industrious, selfless, patient, delightful, kind, steady, thrifty, resourceful, wise, a good listener and fearless.  She was neither a complainer nor one to blame others.   She was also a creative problem solver.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, William Hogan, her five brothers and three sisters – Lawrence, Sylvester, Bill, Martin, Edward, Mary, Polly and Helen.   She is survived by her children Dennis Hogan (Meg), Bill Hogan (Kathy), Maureen Jeanes (Tom), Tim Hogan (Tammy) and Molly Hogan.   She has seven grandchildren - Cory Jeanes, Ben Jeanes, Christian Jeanes, Claire Hogan, Sarah Garnto (Brad), Patrick Hogan (Allison) and Laura Davidson (Daniel) and six great grandchildren - Nora Labib, Sara Labib, William Garnto, Olivia Garnto, Harvey Hogan and Lillian Davidson.

A short rosary is scheduled for Friday, July 10th at 10:00 AM at St. Anthony Catholic Church at 404 N Ballard Avenue, Wylie, TX.   A Memorial Mass is to follow at 10:30 with lunch and a Celebration starting at 11:30, all at St. Anthony.
