Frederick Willard Shuler "Rick" passed away peacefully on August 8, 2026, at the age of 84. He was born March 1, 1942, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Virginia Lee Shuler and Frederick William Shuler.

After graduating from high school, Rick proudly answered the call to serve his country. He joined the United States Navy on April 13, 1959, and served honorably until his discharge on April 12, 1965. He was an Aviation Machinist's Mate Third Class, E-4. His service was an important part of his life, and he remained proud of his time in the Navy.

Following his military service, Rick worked as a police officer in Lakewood, Ohio, for 15 years. Later, he moved to Texas, where he worked a variety of jobs before becoming a Logistics Manager for Texas Instruments, where he spent the later part of his working career.

Rick married the love of his life, Shirley Hines, on September 21, 1991. Together, they shared nearly 35 wonderful years of marriage filled with laughter, adventure, love, and countless memories.

One of Rick's greatest joys was riding his Harley-Davidson Ultra Classic  motorcycle with Shirley by his side. The two of them rode thousands of miles together, traveling through Colorado, the Blue Ridge Mountains of Tennessee, New Mexico, and many times to Hot Springs, Arkansas. They also loved simply getting on the motorcycle and riding through the countryside around their home in Garland, Texas. For Rick, the journey was just as important as the destination—and having Shirley beside him made it even better.

Rick had a gift for making people laugh. He loved telling stories and finding humor in everyday life. He could make people smile when they needed it most. But beyond his humor was a kind and caring heart. He was the person who would encourage someone, remind them that everything would be all right, and let them know they were not alone. He was, in every sense, an all-around good guy.

Rick is survived by his beloved wife, Shirley Shuler; his son, Scott Shuler of Allen, Texas; his son, Chris Shuler of Dunedin, Florida; and his stepson, James Jones Jr. of Denton, Texas, his stepdaughter, Lisa Kongenske of Corinth, Texas, his sister Ellen Elise Cooper of Carrollton, Texas and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Diane Shuler; his sister, Judy Lee Shuler; and his parents, Virginia Lee and Frederick William Shuler.

Rick lived a life filled with service, hard work, adventure, laughter, and love. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, brother, veteran, storyteller, and friend—a man who loved the open road, loved making people laugh, and never missed an opportunity to encourage someone along the way.

He may no longer be riding beside Shirley down the open road, but the miles they traveled together, the laughter they shared, and the memories they made will remain forever.
