Geraldine Mathis, 80, of Wylie, Texas, died peacefully in her sleep in the early morning hours of January 15, 2024, after battling the effects of Lewy Body Dementia for the past year.

Geraldine is preceded in death by her parents, George and Olive Matney of Wichita, Kansas; her brothers, Robert Matney of Derby, Kansas and Ronald Matney of Wichita, Kansas; her sisters, Wanda Williams of Derby, Kansas and Doris Rogers of Mulvane, Kansas.

Geraldine was a faithful Christian, and a member of the Cottonwood Church of Christ in Wylie, Texas, where she worshiped and served the Lord alongside her husband, Mac. She was a homemaker, and with Mac successfully raised their two daughters and a son.

Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Mac Mathis; her daughters, Tammie Hogue and her husband, Eric of Wylie, Texas; Kim Cathey of Carrollton, Texas; and her son, Stephen Mathis and his wife, Gricelda of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Her grandchildren include grandsons Zach Hogue and his wife, Alexandra of Irving, Texas; Mason Hogue of Wylie, Texas; Lex Mathis of Twentynine Palms, California; Cartwright Cathey of Dallas, Texas; and granddaughters, Grace Byrd and her husband Chad of Richardson, Texas; Faith Mathis of College Station, Texas; and Claire Cathey of Denver, Colorado. Geraldine also leaves behind a great-grandson, Asher Hogue; and a great-granddaughter, Willow Hogue of Iving, Texas.

She is also survived by her sister, Linda Avery, and her husband, Harold of Andover, Kansas; along with her nieces, nephews and many wonderful friends.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, January 18, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. in the historic Wylie Cemetery on Masters Avenue in Wylie, Texas. Visitation with the family will be Wednesday evening, January 17, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Allen Funeral Home, 508 Masters Avenue, Wylie, Texas.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Allen Funeral Home. Eric Hogue, minister of the Cottonwood congregation, and Geraldine's son-in-law will officiate. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to friends and extended family for their support, friendship, care, and concern in the last year of the life of our wife and mother.
