Obituary for James (Jim) Byrne

June 13, 1939 – November 23, 2021

Dad, Grandpa, Grampy…those were his favorite names to be called.

Jim was born on June 13, 1939 in Pittsburgh, PA to Charles and Alma (Utters) Byrne.

His family moved to Long Beach, CA in 1944.  He lived a long and adventurous life starting as a young boy in boy scouts, earning an Eagle Scout and excelling in leadership as Chief for the Tribe of Tahquitz (an elite off shoot of boy scouts in Southern California)

He met the love of his life Janice Kauer in kindergarten although they waited until high school to make it official.  Jim graduated from Long Beach Polytechnic High School in 1957.  Jim and Jan were married on June 18, 1960 at North Long Beach Brethren Church and raised their 3 girls – Kimberly, Kelly and Kerry in a Godly, Christian home in Lakewood, CA. They were a very close, tight knit family that went on many road trip adventures throughout the years.

Jim was a master carpenter by trade and retired as a car show display supervisor. He loved his work, especially woodworking and his family has many beautiful pieces of his craftsmanship in their homes.

Jim retired and he and Jan moved to Wylie, TX where their youngest daughter Kerry lived.  They got immediately plugged into First Baptist Church Wylie and made a great set of new friends. Jim and Jan traveled extensively during retirement, mostly on road trips with their trailer.

He lost his love Jan in March 2017 followed by the loss of his middle daughter Kelly just 3 months later in June 2017. His parents also preceded him in death.

Jim passed into heaven's glory due to complications from cancer and dementia on November 23, 2021.  He was 82 years old.

He is survived by his daughters Kimberly Anne Condon and Kerry Annette Byrne; Grandchildren Melissa Anne (Mandi) Condon and Justin Robert (Lindsey) Condon; Great Grandchildren Elliot Jameson Condon and Nora Louise Condon and sister Charla Bryce (Ernie) Nunez.

Jim's services will be held on December 11, 2021 at 11:00 am at Allen Funeral Home in Wylie, TX. 508 Masters Ave  Wylie, TX  75098
