James (Jim) Vernon Young was born to James Franklin Young and Charlotte Elizabeth Lokey on May 26, 1947 in Farmersville, Texas.  He grew up in Farmersville and graduated from Farmersville High School in 1966.  On November 25, 1971, he married Deborah Selby at the Wylie Church of Christ on Thanksgiving evening.  They had 3 sons - James, Jeffrey, and Jordan.  Jim worked in many areas of telephony before later becoming a telecommunications engineer.  He started his career with GTE and ended up in data and PBX systems.  Using that experience, he moved on to ROLM which was soon purchased by IBM/Siemens.  He was a member of the Customer Support Leadership Club at ROLM and later an IBM All Star Employee for the state of Texas.  He moved on to L3 Communications in Greenville and retired in 2017.  Jim enjoyed being a private pilot in his younger years; he returned to that hobby in the 1990s.  He spent a lot of time with his sons, showing interest in whatever their hobbies were, from music, to computers, to race cars, to gun collecting.  He took ham radio as far as he could; his call sign was W5JVY.  After retiring in 2017, he got an RV and traveled for a while.  He loved his Siamese cat, Tiffany.  He tolerated the poodles.

Jim was preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey, in 2018; his parents James and Charlotte Young; paternal grandparents Wyatt Young and Dora Young; maternal grandparents Hewlett and Julie Lokey; and several aunts and uncles.  He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Deborah Young, son James Young and wife Patricia Carll-Young, son Jordan Young and wife Amy Young, and 3 grandchildren, Jonathan, Aubrey, and Jupiter Young.  He loved deeply and was deeply loved by all his family and many friends.  He will be greatly missed.
