Jean Alice Mercer, of Wylie, Texas, passed away peacefully at her home at the age of 98. She lived a long and beautiful life filled with faith, kindness, and devotion to those she loved.

Jean is preceded in death by her husband Charles Mercer, her daughter Cheryl Jean Deckard, her son-in-law Norm Burke and Sister Doris Blessing. Jean is survived by daughter Roxanne and Husband Larry DeBerry from Wylie, Texas and daughter Jacqueline Burke from Overland Park, Ks. Six Grandchildren –Laurence DeBerry, Jeanette and husband Ragen Jones, Amber and her husband Craig Grider, Traci Turner, Jonathon and his wife Gloria Deckard, and Jason Deckard. Twelve Great Grandchildren – Alesha and her husband Drew Bailey, Shelbie and her husband Ryan McDonald, Caleb, Micah and Matthan Jones, Devon and Riley Grider, Mya and Abbie Turner, Olivia, Elena and Luke Deckard.  Seven Great, Great Grandchildren – Harper Chae, Hudson Lynn, and Henleigh Roxanne McDonald, Lola Jean, RaeLynn Mae, Cora Alice, and Adam Jay Bailey.

Jean was born in Baden, PA on September 13, 1962, to Roy and Frances McCallister and graduated from Rochester High School in 1945. On January 5, 1946, she married Charles D. Mercer, and they were married for 70 years. During the first 26 years, Charles served in the Air Force, and they were transferred to many places around the United States and raised 3 daughters. After retirement in January of 1970, they moved to Homestead, FL and remained there until August 24, 1992, when hurricane Andrew destroyed their home. At that time, Jean and Charles moved to Melbourne, FL where they enjoyed traveling all around the country and abroad. In 2011 they moved to Plano, TX to be closer to most of their family. Jean was a very loving and caring person to everyone and as the saying goes, she never met a stranger. Jean loved to just drop by to visit family and friends but mostly loved having company at home. She decorated for all occasions and holidays, at least one for every month, and became known as the decorating queen. She enjoyed doing crafts of all kinds, playing cards and bingo. Jean's legacy of love, strength, and grace will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

A celebration of her life will be held at Allen Funeral Home on March 6, 2025 at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to MD Anderson or a charity in her honor.
