We regretfully announce the passing of Jean (Imojean Cain) Mitchell, of Wylie, TX on January 16,2023. Jean was surrounded by her family and passed away peacefully at home.

Jean was born on January 18, 1936 in Eldon, Mo the youngest of five children. She is preceded in death by her parents, Geneva (Woodard) McWilliams and Homer C. McWilliams; also, her brothers Thomas J. Cain, Carl Cain, and Paul Sanford Cain, and sister Ruby Franks.

She graduated from Northeast High School in Kansas City, Missouri and attended secretarial school. Her career as a secretary spanned 50+ years during which time she worked for Hallmark Cards, Union Carbide Corporation, AFL-CIO, City of Garland both as a secretary and as a 9-1-1- Operator.  She closed out her career and retired from Holland Hitch Company in Wylie after 12 years.  Jean was also an Avon Representative where she was an honored member of the President's club for many years.  She volunteered at Visual Aid Volunteers helping to proof text books transcribed into Braille.  She helped with the Adult literacy program and she enjoyed being a Bell Ringer at the Red Kettle during Christmastime for The Salvation Army.

In 1967 she made the move to Texas where she made a life for herself and raised her 3 daughters. She joined the Salvation Army Church in 1962 while still in Kansas City and continued after moving to Texas.  Jean was a member of the Ladies Home League, League of Mercy and taught the Adult Sunday School for many years.

Family gatherings were also very important for her large, extended family.  Many evenings were spent playing cards, board games, dominos and word games were among some of her favorites.

Jean is survived by her 3 daughters, Roxanne &(Dana*deceased) Nuckols of Garland TX, Carla Smith of Wylie, TX, and Tracy & (James) Pepin of Quitman, TX. She was known as Grandma to 4 grandchildren, Jennifer & (Raymond) Johnson, Aaron &(Kayla) Ogden, Ashley Pepin, and Bridgette & (Travis) Collins; her 8 Great Grandchildren loved their Mimi.  Additionally, she is survived by her Sister-in-Law Freida (Thomas) Cain as well as many beloved nieces and nephews throughout Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, North Carolina, and Florida.

Visitation will be Friday, January 20 from 6 – 8 PM at the Allen Funeral home, 508 Masters Ave. in Wylie, TX.  Services will be held Saturday, January 21, 2023, at The Salvation Army Church, 451 W Avenue D, Garland TX 75040 at 3 PM.  Graveside service will follow at Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
