Joe Conn's memorial service will be June 21, at 10am in Draper Chapel at First Baptist Church of Wylie. He will be interred at DFW National Cemetery by the US Air Force Honor guard at 2:30pm.  Dr. Albert Draper will officiate the memorial service at 10:00am.

Joseph William Conn , Jr. 87, passed away June 7, 2018 in Wylie, Texas. Joe is survived by his wife of 40 years, Charlotte St. John Conn of Wylie, TX; his daughter, Joy Hunt and husband, Dennis of Dothan, AL and his son, Joseph William Conn III and wife Bonnie, of St. John, FL.  Joe has 2 granddaughters - Amber Conn Baldi of Lake Wales, FL and Sara Conn Hawks and husband, Michael of Maitland, FL.  He also has 3 great-grandchildren: LeAnna Grace Arrington, Kale Patrick James McCloughen, both of Lake Wales, FL and Wesley Woicik of Maitland, FL.

Born in Rome, Ga, Joe is the son of the late Joseph W. Conn, Sr. and Ruby Holbrook Conn of Rome, GA.  He is the brother of the late Emma Conn Harwell of Rome, GA and Joyce Conn Ellington of Atlanta, GA.

As the youngest sibling, Joe loved his sisters' five sons and one daughter like a big brother.  They include: Jack Harwell, Jr.and John Harwell of Rome, GA; Alan Harwell (Mary) of Cummings, GA, Judith Harwell of Panama City, FL, Clay Ellington of Atlanta and Conn Ellington (Dana) of San Francisco, CA.  Family and extended family was always important to Joe.  Coming  back "home" at least once each year was something he always planned and enjoyed.  Joe was also very close to his great-uncle, G.C. Walters of Dallas with whom he worked for many years.  He has extensive family including numerous nieces, nephews and cousins that he loved very much.

A "super salesman", Joe knew no strangers, had a great smile, and the "gift of gab".  He started his career working for his father at Conn's Shorter Avenue Supermarket and Bakery.  When he was in his 20s, Joe went to school in Ohio to learn specialized baking skills.  For many years, Conn's Bakery was the place to go in Rome, GA and miles around for decorated cakes, pies, and hot glazed donuts!

Joe graduated West Georgia College, was a consummate Georgia Bulldog and Dallas Cowboy fan and mastered "the art of the deal".  He applied these techniques throughout his life - including a four-year tour with the US Air Force in Europe, including NATO Headquarters in Italy; real estate auctioneering sales in Texas; and succeeding as multi-year top Texas salesman for Pacesetter Industries.

In addition, as a young man in Georgia, Joe was actively involved in the community.  He was a Master Mason, a Member of the Yaarab Shrine Temple, annually raised money for the Shriner's Children's Hospital and Circus and was a Member of Georgia Governors' Carl Sanders and Lester Maddox's Motorcycle Motorcades.

He was a life-long adventurer.  Joe loved life, his family, the Lord, friends and his country.  He was a Patriot.  Joe flew the US Flag daily with pride.  On military holidays, miniature flags lined the sidewalk.  He visited all 50 United States, the Arctic Circle, most US National Parks and numerous foreign countries.  He loved a happy and full life.  Joe was baptized and a true believer in the Lord Jesus Christ with whom he now resides in Heaven.

Other survivors also include two stepsons: Kevin St. John (Pam) of Sachse, TX and Mikel St. John of Wylie, TX.
Six step grandchildren: Charlie St. John (Lauren) of Lewisville, TX, Ryan St. John (Ashley) and Drew St. John (Marissa) both of Wylie.  Katy St. John Link (Matt) of Tyler, TX, Ashley St. John of Yantis, TX and Mikel St. John Jr. (Michelle) of McKinney, TX.
Six step great-grandchildren: Nicolle and Grayson St. John of Lewisville; Carson St. John of Wylie; Pearson, Nash and Collins Link of Tyler.  Joe was preceded in death by a stepson, Ricky St. John and a step great-granddaughter, Olivia St. John.
