Joseph Edward Davis Jr. of Murphy, Texas, passed away on February 24, 2023, at the age of 87. Joe had mourned the loss of his wife, Doris, who died 364 days prior to his passing. His grief never stopped him from being the greatest father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Joe fought a 25-day battle in the hospital and died of natural causes, surrounded by his children.

Joseph Edward Davis Jr. was born on March 29, 1935, in Lebanon Junction, Kentucky.  Joe honorably served in the United States Air Force from July 1957 to July 1963. He chose the Air Force because of his love of airplanes, plans to continue his education, and desire to travel and see the world. He met the love of his life, Doris, in the fall of 1963 and they married in June of 1964. They were married for 57 years. In 1971, Joe and Doris moved the family to Amarillo, Texas. Joe spent the early years working long hours getting the family business established. He won multiple awards within the oil and gas industry as well as running a 5-star Unocal Truck Stop. Raising seven children took up most of Joe and Doris's time, but they always enjoyed life. After retirement, the couple enjoyed years of traveling, including spending many winters in their vacation home in Panama, South America, taking in the sun, the ocean, and the warm weather.

A devout Catholic who lived life to its fullest, Joe took joy in cheering for the Dallas Cowboys, going to the symphony, enjoying Mexican food and margaritas, and so much more. Joe was a true patriot and loved to share his knowledge of our country's history. Joe's greatest legacy is the love he had for his family.

Joe is survived by his seven children:  Garret Cockrell of Frisco, TX; Ronald Cockrell of Hutchinson, KS; Teresa Schneider and her husband Michael of Mesquite, TX; Debbie Ford of Murphy, TX; Joseph E. Davis III and his wife Diane of Flint, TX; Pam Comerford and her husband Sean of Allen, TX; and Patricia Thorne and her husband Brian of Amarillo, TX. Joe also leaves behind one sister from Louisville, KY, Marilyn Ohlman and her husband Jim; one sister from Minneapolis, Minnesota, Jean Kimitch; one brother from Indianapolis, Indiana, Bob Davis; and one brother from Anderson, Indiana, Bill Davis and his wife Shirley.  He is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 9 great-children, and numerous nieces and nephews. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Joe Sr. and Cleo Davis; his brothers, Carol, Paul and Don Davis; and his great-grandson, Cason Cockrell.

Visitation will be Monday, March 6, 2023, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Allen Funeral Home of Wylie, Texas. His celebration of life Mass will be Tuesday, March 7, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Wylie, Texas. Joe will be laid to rest following a military ceremony at 2:30 p.m. the same day at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.
