Genene Hughes, 75, of Nevada, formerly of Wylie passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family.  Genene was born in Durant, Oklahoma on April 11, 1941 to Richard Robert Vaughn and Hazel Estelle (Nelson) Vaughn.

Genene and her family moved to Wylie and this is where she grew up.  After graduating from high school, Genene married James LaDon "Don" Hughes on September 2, 1959 in Greenville, Texas.  Together they raised their two boys, Jimmy and Gary, in Wylie while beginning to operate their own businesses.  Genene was a beautician and owned and operated Genene's Beauty Shop for many years in Wylie.  She retired only when her health began to fail in the last few years.

Genene is survived by her husband of 57 years, Don Hughes of Nevada; her two sons, Jimmy Hughes and wife, Kathi, Gary Don Hughes, two grandchildren, Allyn and Lauren Hughes and one great granddaughter, Hazel Grace Hughes. Genene was preceded in death by her parents, Richard Robert and Hazel Estelle Vaughn and brother Billy Gene Vaughn.

Visitation for Genene is scheduled for Tuesday, February 21, 2017 from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. at Allen Funeral Home.  Funeral services are Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. in the Allen Funeral Home Chapel.  Dr. A. L. Draper and Chaplain Samuel Glenn will officiate.  Interment will follow at the Wylie Cemetery.
