Matthew Stephen Hambly

Arrived on January 20, 1973, to forever change the lives of his parents Joseph and Dona Hambly, as well as anyone lucky enough to meet him over his lifetime.  As a newborn, he traveled from Siloam Springs, Arkansas to Tulsa, Oklahoma where he spent his first week in this world in the hospital.  After his hospital stay, he was brought home to meet his older siblings, Christle and John.

When he was four months old, the family packed up and moved to Plano, Texas.  He was a frequent visitor to Scottish Rite Hospital and about the age of five, the hospital staff taught him to take his first steps with prosthetic legs, made just for him.  Learning to balance and walk with crutches was a big event in his life. It was these initial small steps that enabled him to take on many greater steps through life.

When his younger brother Brian made his entry into the family, the children set out to help Matthew succeed at whatever he wanted to do in life.  Matthew was strong willed, determined, unlimited, and never knew the words "you can't do that".  It was his big heart and "can do" attitude that enabled him to live a life without limits.

When he was younger, he participated in the Special Olympics, loved fishing, hunting, and was an avid swimmer.  As he grew older, he enjoyed working on cars, restoring guns, and his latest love was welding.  He bought his own tool chest and furnished it with the tools necessary to work on what he wanted to do next.  He spent time watching YouTube videos to gain insight on his interests and would try to implement what he would see.  One of his many accomplishments in doing so was learning to barbeque.

He was a gun enthusiast with a primary interest in World War II era weapons.  He became an excellent shooter and enjoyed outings with his law enforcement friends to local gun ranges.

He was very serious about his work.  With an inherited work ethic, he was always on time and rarely missed a day.  His long-term goal was to become a business owner.

Matthew will be remembered as someone with a huge heart (who loved unconditionally), extremely funny, easy going, and had a beautiful smile.  His heart and laughter touched the lives of everyone he came into contact.

Matthew was greeted at the gates of Heaven by his father, Joseph Hambly and will be greatly missed by everyone, especially:

Dona Hambly (mother); Christle Johnson (sister) and Clint Johnson (brother-in-law) and their children, Holly and Josh; John Hambly (brother) and his children, Austin, Taya, and Adley; Brian Hambly (brother) and Brooke Hambly (sister-in-law) and their children, Breckyn and Brian.
