Mattie Lara Guzman, 86, of Rowlett, Texas, was called to her eternal rest on November 4, 2022in Dallas, Texas. She was born on November 8, 1935, in Clarksville, Texas.She moved to Garland, Texas with her sister Maggie Mikus. She married Joe S. Guzman on July 26,1963.  They were married and lived in Rowlett for 56 years.

Mattie traveled to Indianapolis, Indiana in 2007 & 2010, Columbus, Ohio in 2013 and Seattle, Washington 2017 visiting her son, Keith.  Mattie had been living with her son Keith in Seattle from 2019 until her return in January 2022 due to her husband's hospitalization. She was a stay-at-home mom and was more than happy to be the central figure in the lives of her children.  Anyone who knew them knew that she was a star in their eyes and that is all that ever mattered to her.  She was a wonderful cook with Coconut Cream pie being one of her best desserts, which was her son Richards favorite.  She was a helping hand to her husband with his animals by feeding and tending to them.She loved tending and nurturing her rose garden.

Mattie was preceded in death by her son Joe Richard Guzman, her husband Joe S. Guzman, her parents Roy and Zelma Howland, her sister Lucy Vanhoose, brothers Wayne Howland and James Howland.

Mattie is survived by her son Keith Rene Guzman, sister Maggie Mikus, brother Jerry and his wife Phyllis Howland, sister-in-law Jerri widow of Wayne Howland and several nieces and nephews.

While our family grieves her loss we are choosing to celebrate her life on what would have been her 87th birthday.
