In loving memory of Melvin H. McEuen, who passed away on May 16, 2024 surrounded by loved ones.  Born February 18, 1943 in Ivanhoe, TX to parents Luther McEuen and Opal (Roberson) McEuen, he was one of seven children.

He was a proud veteran, having served four years in the Navy during the Vietnam War.  He carried his communications training over to civilian life, and had a 30-year career as a PBX technician for GTE/Verizon.  Additionally, he was an accomplished mechanic and a certified HVAC technician.

Melvin is survived by his wife of 52 years, Judy (Teeson) McEuen, with whom he raised five sons: Richard, Bobby, Melvin, David, and Kevin. He is also survived by his daughter Doris Jean Looney from a previous marriage.  And while he took great pride in the other roles he served during his life, it was as a husband and father where he really excelled, and which gave him the greatest joy.  He specifically referred to "getting your mother to marry me" as his greatest accomplishment.

He was alternately known as "Dad" or "Pops", not just to his boys, but to the multitude of friends who frequented the McEuen household during the boys' teenage years.  In most cases, it was just a sign of respect for someone willing to be a secondary parental presence in their lives; in other cases, he filled a gap for kids whose primary parental presence may have been missing or just had a home life that was not ideal.  In several cases, he and Judy welcomed them to move into the house for as long as needed to get their personal situations worked out.  Most importantly, they loved them all like their own.

In addition to his wife, sons and daughter, he is survived by two sisters, Cheryl Ann Workman and Donna Smith, three daughters-in-law (Jennifer, Belinda, and Mindy), seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by two brothers, Luther "Luke" McEuen and Kenneth Ray McEuen, and two sisters, Juanita Seale and Earlene Dietsche.

Services will be held on Wednesday, May 22nd at 1:00 at Allen Funeral Home in Wylie, with graveside services following.  A reception will follow at 300 Harvest Bend Drive, Wylie for all family and friends.
