Michael Lee Rawlings

Michael Lee Rawlings left this earthly world to join his Lord on December 24, 2022.  Mike passed away at his residence in Greenville surrounded by his family.  Mike was born on May 18, 1950 to his late parents, Marvin Lee and Juanita Jean (Humphries) Rawlings in the small town of Lefors, Texas.  Mike and his family moved to Garland during his childhood and later to Caddo Mills where Mike graduated from Caddo Mills High School in 1968. He and his family then moved to Wylie where he met the love of his life, Sandra Kay Scott.  They were married December 19, 1969 in Wylie at the Assembly of God Church.

Mike worked full-time with his father at Rawlings Brake and Alignment in Garland after he graduated. He worked there until he became employed at the US Postal Service as a mechanic in 1990. Mike retired from the Postal Service after many years of faithful service.

In his younger years, Mike worked part-time for Allen Funeral Home on the ambulance.  While working on the ambulance he was also a volunteer fireman in Wylie (1968-1985). There was a special camaraderie amongst all of the firemen that went beyond just going to fire calls and created many lifelong friendships.   He was so well thought of by his fellow volunteers they elected him Second Chief for several years.  Some of the fond memories include the pranks pulled amongst each other, fundraising with chili suppers, roasting chickens and baked beans in the middle of summer, and hosting the local haunted house.

When Mike finally retired he and Sandra loved to travel around the country in an RV, but Colorado included their most favorite locations.  His daughters stated that the older their parents got, the more daring they became.  The girls recalled Mike could fix anything, though electrical was not what he preferred. When working on cars and putting them back together there were always left over parts and he would say they weren't needed anyway, it was just something they could charge extra for.

Mike is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sandra Rawlings of Greenville, daughters and sons-in-law; Deana and Jesse Burnett and Amanda and Ken Burns Sr. also of Greenville; brother, Ronnie Rawlings of Blairsville, Georgia, 11 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and many other family members and friends that loved him dearly.

Family time will be Friday, December 30, 2022 from 4:00 P. M. - 5:00 P. M. at the Allen Funeral Home Chapel.  A memorial service will be at 5:00 P.M.at the Allen Funeral Home Chapel
