Raymond Larry Lee Jones

December 7, 1943 -September 23, 2023

Raymond Larry Lee Jones, age 79, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 23, 2023, in Sachse, Texas. Larry, as he was called, was born on December 7, 1943, in Winfield TX to Charlie and Opal Jones. He was raised in the Winfield/Mt. Pleasant area until his family moved to Copeville when Larry was a child.

Larry attended Community High School where was an outstanding athlete. He participated in every athletic activity he could find in high school. He married the love of his life, Donna Gay McGuire, on December 18, 1964. They built a life together in the Copeville area, raising 2 sons and being active members of the community. Larry was active in the Copeville and Lavon Baptist Churches for many years. He served on various committees and was a deacon. He served on the Community ISD school board for several years and on the Copeville Water Board.

Larry was a true craftsman and along with other family members, framed many houses in the Plano/Garland/McKinney area.  He later become a custom builder and truly enjoyed helping people build the homes of their dreams.

Larry's other passion was hunting. He loved nothing more than to go to Ozona, TX with his sons and grandsons for a weekend hunt. He loved the outdoors and sitting in his deer stand. He was always looking for that elusive buck with the massive antlers.

Larry is preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Opal Jones, his wife of 50 years, Donna Gay McGuire Jones, father and mother-in-law Clyde and Helen McGuire, brothers Charles, Richard, Mike, Jackie and Gerald Jones and sisters Rita Bangs, Kay Payne and Bonnie Riley.

He is survived by his sons Brad (Toni) Jones of San Antonio, TX, and Gary (LeAnn) Jones of Nevada, TX, grandsons Carson Jones and Dylan Jones of Nevada, TX, brother Dewayne (MiSung) Jones of Corinth, TX, brother and sister-in-law Wendall and Oleta McGuire of McKinney, TX. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and friends.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, September 28, 2023 at Allen funeral home in Wylie, Texas from 6:00 PM-8:00 PM.

Services will be held on Friday, September 29, 2023, at 10:00AM at the Allen funeral home in Wylie. Interment will follow at 11:30 AM at Thompson Cemetery, 7232 TX Highway 78 North in Nevada TX.
