Ronald "Ronnie" Vanoy Scott

August 27, 1948 – July 6, 2024
On July 6th we had a terrible loss, but all of the fish, dove, deer and anything else that's tasty within
Texas and its four neighboring states breathed a sigh of relief. Their greatest nemesis, Ronnie, was a
one of a kind man who wore overalls, and if you were lucky a shirt, almost every day. Even though he
practically had the exact same "country" address for his entire life, he sure did see some places and
do some amazing things as he blessed and/or messed with those around him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Warren Vanoy Scott & Edith Fay Rhoades, and his brother
Joel Wayne Scott. He was survived by his sister Sandra Kay Rawlings. God and his family were
important to him, he loved and honored them with how he lived.
Because of his great love of country, honor and sense of duty, Ronnie joined the military at a young
age and proudly served in the Navy as a Seabee in Vietnam 1969-1970. Some say the structures and
roads he built while overseas are now celebrated as the best things in that country and have never
needed any maintenance of any kind. There are also rumors that they have finally almost restocked
their beer supply and that you still can hear tall tales of the Crazy Texan and his .50 cal. After receiving
his Honorable Discharge, he enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, fishing, riding Harleys, working out,
raising goats and chickens, and being a benefit to those around him.
His work ethic and dedication could not be questioned as he consistently and diligently performed his
tasks at Continental Emsco for 25 years and at SAF Holland as a Rolling Mill Operator for 19 years. He
retired from factory work in 2014 to become a full-time side by side enthusiast / beer taster.
He married Denise Scott Glaze in 1987 and became the step dad of Kelly Lynn White and Kendra Rae
Scribner. Soon, Kendall Vanoy Scott and Karli Patricia Wilkins were born. When the marriage ended in
2000 some were worried how he would adjust to being alone. However, he wasn't alone, because
three of the children remained under his care.
Ronnie was born to be a Daddy. He loved well, provided and sought to have his kids have a far better
life than he had.
His love of tasty food and beverage, fireworks, hunting, fishing, going fast, and general tomfoolery
rubbed off on his family, friends, and neighbors. He would include his loved ones in his activities, even
though it sometimes hindered the hunt or the fishing. He chose this because of his big heart and his
care for his loved ones and knew the time spent together was more valuable than the haul. Another
little known, maybe unverified bit of information: Bald Eagles would regularly nest on his house
because they knew it was truly an American home, led by a patriot fueled by beer and attention from
pretty and not so pretty ladies. The eagles would always get emotional and tear up when he
celebrated the 4th of July properly and they would fly away again when his eyebrows grew back.
One of Ronnie's biggest joys/blessings was being a Papaw. He loved and cared deeply for his
grandkids, Ciara Lynn Goodner, Jason William Scribner Jr, Taylie Faith Wilkins, and Hudson Scott
Wilkins. He always kept them in the front of his mind and connected with them even when they lived
many hours away from him. For the ones that lived nearby, he seldom missed even small mundane
events or practices. His schedule revolved around them because he treasured them, treasured time
spent with them, and in turn, they treasure him. Ronnie also loved the spouses his children chose,
Jason Scribner, Ronni Picknell-Scott, and Zach Wilkins. He treated them extremely well and Zach states that
Ronnie was his best friend.
All who knew Ronnie considered him to be kind, warm, authentic, and knew it would be impossible to
not smile when with him. Even though he was a poor country boy, he was rich in family and friends.
We will all miss hearing him call us "Little Buddy."
Visitation will be 6:00-8:00pm Sunday July 14th at Allen Funeral Home in Wylie, TX. Funeral will be
10:00am Monday, July 15th also at Allen Funeral Home. The burial will immediately follow at Restland
