Sherry Anna Abney ( McGinnis )

Sherry Abney, of Wylie, Texas, passed away on August 26th, 2026, surrounded by loving family.

Sherry was born on August 28, 1941, in Burbank CA, to Bill (Noug) and Anita McGinnis. In early childhood she moved to Alba,TX, and graduated from Alba Golden High School. After graduation, she married her high school sweetheart Max Abney and settled in Plano, TX, where she and Max raised their children, Cal and Carla.

Sherry devoted her life to her family and her career. She worked for more than 28 years at the City of Plano/Plano Police Department. After retiring, she dedicated her life to her family.

Those who knew Sherry will remember her kindness and warmth, quick sense of humor, and ability to make everyone feel welcome. She loved working in her flower garden, reading her bible, listening to her favorite country music, and spending time surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Her greatest joy was her family, spoiling her grandkids and her cats, Wobbles and Venus.

Sherry is survived by her son Cal Mark Abney, daughter Carla Lanier and husband Doug Banko; her grandchildren Aaron Lanier, Callie Bergquist and husband Zackary, Carleigh Kim and husband Dillon, and Walker Abney; great grandchildren Ainsleigh, Colter, and one great grandbaby on the way. Along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will all miss her as well.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Anita McGinnis, her baby brother Kyle McGinnis, sister Jeannine Edwards, along with brother-in-laws Harvey Olson and Dean Edwards.

Sherry will be deeply missed, but the love, laughter, and kindness she shared will remain with her family and friends for generations to come.
