SHIRLEY MARIE AKIN

Shirley Marie Akin was born on November 20, 1940 and passed away peacefully and surrounded by loved ones at the age of 84 on Saturday, July 19, 2025. Born in Clear Lake, Texas to John William Schultz and Minnie Isabel Hicks, Shirley grew up with 4 sisters and 2 brothers.

Shirley was a devoted wife to her husband of 57 years, Thomas Akin. They were married on November 28, 1959 and had 3 children. Shirley spent her entire adult life caring for her husband, children, parents, extended family, neighbors, neighborhood children, and all 7 of her grandchildren.  Her family was the light of her life and she was the light of theirs. She was known to sneak special treats to her grandchildren, keep their secrets when they were "naughty" so they wouldn't get in trouble with their parents, allow them to play baseball in her living room (where she was the all-time pitcher), make the best breakfasts and love on anyone who would sit close enough. In her free time, she loved the Texas Rangers, the Dallas Cowboys, crosswords and word searches, long car rides with her beloved Tommy, and Blue Bell Vanilla Ice Cream by the carton. Shirley was known for her kind, gentle, and generous spirit by all who knew her.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Hill Akin; her parents John William Schultz and Minnie Isabel Schultz; sisters- Ruby Allyne Harvell, Betty Jo Mills and Frances June Deets; brothers- Billy Junior Schultz and Theddy Ray Schultz.

She is survived by her children- Cynthia Marie Moloney, Vickie Jean Hughey and husband Gary, Jeffrey Mark Akin and wife Melanie; 7 grandchildren- Emily Clark and husband Bryan, Joshua Moloney and wife Jennifer, Matthew Moloney and wife Haley, Jessica Jordan and husband AJ, Shane Akin and fiancé Jalyn, Katie Provencher and husband Jacob, and Tyler Hughey; 12 great-grandchildren; her sister- Patsy Louise Foster; and countless nieces, nephews and friends.

Shirley will be forever missed and loved by her family. She was the most amazing mom and grandmother and has left a legacy of love, care, patience, understanding and perseverance.
